B Ravinder Kumar: Noida-based tech company Lava has launched a new Blaze 2 in India. The new smartphone is priced at Rs 8,999, though its actual sale in India will begin on April 18 via Amazon and Lava India channels. With its latest device, the Indian tech brand will compete against budget offerings by Motorola and Realme. The new Lava Blaze 2 lacks 5G, which is slowly becoming a must-have feature among Indian mobile customers. If you want a 5G device, Lava offers Blaze 5G at a much more affordable price of Rs 11,999
.Lava says that despite the Blaze 2's affordable price tag, the phone does not compromise on the build material. It features a premium glass finish and punch-hole display, which is uncommon among smartphones in this segment. Last year, Motorola launched the Moto G22 with a hole-punch display instead of the more common waterdrop-style notch. However, the Motorola phone features a plastic build -- a common material among budget phones, as it helps in keeping them more affordable.
Lava is also boasting the Blaze 2's "bloat-free Android experience," meaning the user will only get the essentials app for the smartphone. There might be a couple of un-removable stock Android apps, like Gmail, Settings, and camera. There might be a few proprietary apps as well. Lava notes its latest phone "comes with a promised upgrade to Android 13 and two years of security updates."
In terms of specifications, the Blaze 2 features a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate (for smooth scrolling) and a 2.5D curved screen. The former refers to a slight curvature at the edge of the glass display to improve the overall aesthetics of the smartphone.
On the back, the Lava Blaze 2 includes a 13-megapixel dual-camera setup and the front has an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling. The smartphone's inbuilt camera features include beauty, HDR, night, portrait, panorama, slow motion, time-lapse, and audio notes.
Other key features include a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging (Type-C), Unisoc T616 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.
With its latest Lava Blaze 2, Lava would hope to gain an edge over brands like Motorola and Realme, which recently launched smartphones in a similar price range. Customers can choose between Glass Orange and Glass Blue. Its sale will begin at 12 PM on April 18 via Amazon. Lava is also promising "free service at home" for devices under warranty.
